Spring Summer 09 - My Picks

Ive been looking at the shows everyday for about 3 weeks straight now and its been such a mixed bag in terms of what I like and what I didnt. Here are my favorite looks from the Spring Summer 2009 runways so far, bearing in mind Lanvin is on Sunday so hopefully Alber will do me proud and trump all designers so far.

This has to be my ultimate image for the season, Raquel Zimmermann at Proenza Schouler. I just love this look and the bare midriff has to be the cut of the season, it was everywhere but this is definatly the best I've seen it executed.

Siri Tollerød at Fendi. Fendi really suprised my this season. I love their colour pallette and their attention to fabrication. Siri looks amazing here also, love the hair. Dont like the shoes though.

Jourdan Dunn at Rodarte. I just think the colours in this dress are unlike anything else. Really beautiful. Plus Jourdan has shot right up in my favorite models this season.

As much as I dislike Gareth Pugh and his samey work, he suprised me this season. I don't love the entire collection but there are some elements here and there that I like. I think some looks looked poorly constructed but this look modeled by Magdalena Frackowiak is pretty well executed and well styled.

Overall Ive not been as impressed with the SS09 as I have been in previous years however Paris is still going on at the minute so I'll make up my mind at the end of the week.

Gucci Ad Campaign Video Is Finally Here!

Sorry about the lack of updates lately, been moving to England again and havnt had access to the internet. But the Gucci video is finally here and it is beautiful. I would go as far to say that it is my favourite Gucci campaign to date, and I absolutely love their campaigns every season. Lily is just so beautiful.

A Month in Editorials: August 2008

A short and sweet look at the best editorials from the August issues from around the world! Soundtrack is Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps.

Campaign Update - Chloe, H&M

Chloé F/W 08.09 : Anja Rubik, Anna Selezneva & Lara Stone by Inez & Vinoodh

This is the first image from the new Chloe campaign. good to see Anja is back. Although I prefer her shorter hair but I'm glad to see that they are back to using her. I wasn't too fond of the SS08 ads so I'm glad to see them going back to the traditional Chloe roots once again.

H&M fall 2008: Lily Donaldson, Daria Werbowy & Mathias Lauridsen

Yes that actually is H&M! Using Lilly and Daria this season I think the ads look great. Lilly is so beautiful and these ads really show off the natural beauty that she possesses. For more images from the campaign (screen capped from the h&m website) click below.

H&M Campaign image 1 H&M Campaign image 2

H&M Campaign image 3 H&M Campaign image 4

H&M Campaign image 5 H&M Campaign image 6

AH!! When will the Lanvin and Gucci ad campaigns start trickling in? I'm anticipating them so much, they are often easily my favourite campaigns each season. When I do see them, I can guarantee that they will be posted for all to view!!

Thanks goes to Marcel and moussemaker of thefashionspot forums!

INTERVIEW: Florent Campana Catwalk Music Designer

Today we sat down and interviewed the bright, imaginatitive, talented and flurishing music designer Florent Campana, current music designer for legendary elitist brand Vionnet and has worked with other such greats Hermes and Froote Jewlery.

And this is how it went..

FAT:
Can you give us a little insight to who you are and what you do?

Florent Campana
I'm Florent Campana, I’m French, I live in Paris since 2004, and I’m 25 years old. I've starting making music at 13, started as a guitar player influenced by death metal, to evolve thru music and life in parallel to become this music composer for high end fashion brands.
My aim with this job is to surpass my client's wishes and to give the most I can to make sure everyone will feel touched by the beauty of the collection.

FAT:
What brands have you worked for in the past and who are you working for now?

Florent Campana
I've worked for Mauboussin, Hermes, Madeleine Vionnet, Froote Jewellery, and Jorge Tort. I'm still working with Vionnet, Froote, Jorge tort, and I’ve just signed contracts for one big designer I can't unveil right now

FAT:
For these brands is your music used in their catwalks and does it extend to anything else that they do for example promotional films etc?

Florent Campana
It's often for catwalks, website, and videos yeah

FAT:
What is inspiring you at the minute?

Florent Campana
The sun outside, and to think I’m in the most beautiful city of the world, and maybe to think I’ll meet more great people in the future!
Vionnet has such a legacy that when I work for them, it's really a true honour to build soundscapes for the mother of high end fashion

FAT:
Can you take us through the process from start to finish of first receiving the word to work for a designer and then the end result of hearing it in the show?

Florent Campana
I work in pair with a sound engineer called Florent Livet. I can tell you how went the last meeting with Vionnet for the Crazy Horse fashion show. So their last designer was called Lhakim, a really gifted guy, sensitive, clever, and with a true love for Vionnet. We had worked for them on the previous show when Marc Audibet was still working for Vionnet... so we are in really good terms with Arnaud de Lummen, Vionnet's CEO, They had 5 stories to tell, they wanted to break the classic image of Vionnet, by adding leather and shorter dresses and the music was supposed to reflect the same.

Harder, darker, something more hitting the guts than flattering the ears. We talked for a few hours to get Lhakim's and Arnaud's vision of what the collection meant to them and the funny part is that, I had worked sporadically on some tunes, thinking about making darker stuff for vionnet, we had a listening session, and it clicked. So from there, we knew how to develop what I had and what we'd have to create to fit the collection. That's why I’ve added electric guitars, disharmonies, more dirty electro stuff. I've fallen in love with Moog synthesizers at this time ha-ha, Moog is the Vionnet's of synths.

FAT:
What do you feel the relationship between fashion and music is? They are two very different industries but seem to gel so well together.

Florent Campana
Fashion couldn't express the same feelings without music, just before we talked, I was looking a video for the hysteria collection of Gucci, turn the sound off, and you will see what I mean! I think music can engrave feelings and tell stories better than any word. I’m often disappointed when I hear the music they have in big fashion houses, just blank stuff, and grey stuff.
In my vision of things, music in fashion should be used just like in cinema, a way to underline emotions at key moments. That's why I’ve started to develop something for stores, a modular music design.

For example: you don't want to hear some type of music in the morning, but you'll be receptive to it in the afternoon. That's what I want to create! To me going into a high end fashion store is to express your love or feelings to the person you buy the object, you use the perfect craftsmanship of these houses to express the deepest of your emotions
Just like in cinema, music would help to fix this moment in the head of the customer, like he's looking at what he want to offer, and there he let himself go with the sound, he thinks about his lover, and it's like in a movie for him.... that's how I see the connection between fashion and music.

FAT:
What is your current opinion on fashion? Do you think any issues like the credit crunch/recession will affect the way people purchase these brands?

Florent Campana
Yes it will, fashion lives off accessories. People want to belong to those elite who wear Prada or Gucci, or Vuitton but they can't afford a dress or a jacket so they buy glasses, key holder, wallets, or even counterfeit stuff. I think the situation hasn’t really changed; the people who can afford buying a 30.000e dress are the same who could in the past. I've had chats about it with various people in the industry, and some think that bigger brands are corrupting their image and core by putting out glasses, t-shirts etc, and not sticking with their former wishes.

My view on high end stuff is that I see it as art, I respect craftsmanship, I respect hard work and I’m often amazed at how incredible are some dresses or handbags and I like fashion houses because it allows talented people to create what makes humans shine. Just like when you see a beautiful painting or sculpture, you are just telling yourself, ' the hand of humans can make such beautiful things’. That’s why I’m so glad to live in Paris, sometimes you just walk around and bam you're in front of an incredible building, owww man how did they do that!!

FAT:
In terms of Vionnet, are you currently working on anything for them? What is it for and how is it coming along?

Florent Campana
I'm working on new music for Vionnet for October 2008. It will be for their next fashion show I'm afraid I can't really talk about the future with vionnet because a lot of stuff about them is really confidential.

FAT:
For people who may want to get into producing music for fashion brands, catwalk shows etc, how do you think they should go about it?

Florent Campana
Well I’ll describe you my story, so your readers will see there is nothing that can be planned. I've always liked fashion even if I’m not a fashion addict for myself and I always told myself dude I’d love to work for fashion brands. It fell on my head someday, a friend of mine was in contact with Arnaud de Lummen, he told me about vionnet having a catwalk, and I just said I want to make the music for it!
I worked my ass off, made 45 minutes of music in 3 weeks. A full record in less than a month. And it clicked perfectly. I’ve put all my heart and worked hard to understand what meant Vionnet to people and who is the 'femme vionnet' the woman who dresses in vionnet.

So my advice to people who want to make music for fashion is be ready to work you ass off, never rest on anything, and always give your best with respect to the brand you work for. You have to give the music a special something, which is your personality, and at the same time, you have to let some space for the brand to exist

FAT:
Is there anything else you would like to touch on?

Florent Campana
I'm amazed at how people maintain blogs like your on fashion! And I'm stunned to see the passion and creativity involved with these blogs! I'd also would like to add that if a young brand wants to work with me, they should contact me so we can discuss what can be done !

We would like to thank Florent for taking the time to answer our questions.

All images are from Vogue Italia, Vogue Russia, Vogue Paris, V Magazine and a few others.

Today's Top Tunes from around the web:
Take a leap of faith and download all these, I bet you'll love at least 4! Personally the ones I'm listening to most outta this bunch are the Katy Perry Remix, the new single from The Faint, the new Nas track and the Starsailor remix.
The songs featured in this post are my selection from these amazing blogs:
Hope you enjoy!

New iD Cover - Naomi Campbell and Stefano Pilati

i-D August 2008 : Naomi Campbell & Stefano Pilati by Inez & Vinoodh

Personally I've never been a huge fan of Naomi but this cover just blew me away. I think its excellent. Love the whole image and I also like how Stefano is also there. Designers should feature on covers more often considering it is their work that is being displayed. Naomi seems to be on top of her game at the min in terms of ad campaigns editorials and covers. Never really loved her but this cover wins me over.

Today's Top Tunes - Friday 4th July

Today's Top Tunes from around the web.

First up - Disco Dust

Disco Dust uploaded the most amazing 3 tunes today by FUKKK OFFF. You need to download all 3 of these. fukkk offf mixxx 2 is a whole mix that starts off with the first two tunes. Proper good stuff.

fukkk offf - rave is king (discodust edit)

monosurround - cocked, locked, ready to rock (fukkk offf remix)

fukkk offf - fukkk offf mixxx 2

Next Blog - PalmsOutSounds

Well this song may be laughed at but I'm sorry Backstreet Boys were good in their day and Everybody is still an awesome tune. Proving this is an absolutely amazing mix bringing it bang up to date. The second tune you should check out from PalmsOut is this one by Jay Z. Fresh after headlining Glastonbury last Saturday this remix is apt.

Backstreet Boys - "Everybody" (Headshotboyz Remix)

Jay-Z - "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" (Elroy Vanderley Dirrty Edit)

Last But Not Least - MissingToof

This mix of lil waynes lollipop song adds new dimension to it. MissingToof uploaded it this week and I've been listening to it since and so should you.

Campaign Update Dior Versace and more Prada

Versace F/W 08.09 : Isabeli Fontana and Natalia Vodianova by Mario Testino

Ive no real opinion on this ad to be honest. I neither love it or hate it. Versace ads have never really impressed or annoyed me and this one is no exception.

Christian Dior F/W 08.09 : Daria Werbowy by Craig Mcdean

I do love Daria however this ad is not one of my favourite Dior ads. Its better than last seasons ads but I just don't like the clothes the bag or the colour.

Prada F/W 08.09 : Linda Evangelista & Patrick Petitjean by Steven Meisel

As you know I'm so annoyed at Prada for using Linda for this campaign as it is personally one of my favourite collections this season. This particular image is better than the first one we seen however Linda still annoys me in it.

Thanks goes to *k.a.t.e*, yourbestfriend and Northern Star from the fashion spot forums.

Fall Winter 0809 Campaign Update

More Campaigns are starting to trickle in.

Burberry F/W 08.09 : Rosie Huntington-Whiteley & Sam Riley by Mario Testino

This is the first campaign in years for Burberry that has not been a group shot. However I think it still works well and is a beautiful campaign. My favourite Burberry campaign to date is still SS08 though.
Chanel F/W 08.09 : Claudia Schiffer by Karl Lagerfeld

I dont get why designers are using old models this season. Linda Evangelista for Prada is terrible and Karl Lagerfeld is using Claudia Schiffer again this season. The ads were bad last season and seem like their bad again this season.

Miu Miu F/W 08.09 : Vanessa Paradis by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot

Generally I love the Miu Miu campaigns. The colours are always so rich and again I love this campaign. Stepping away from celebrities this time is a nice change. One of my favourite campaigns this season. Doesn't Vanessa look a little bit like Blair from Gossip Girl?
Thanks goes to WWD and the DailyMail and also Ed.., Clarabella, kknardi and Toni Fersen from the fashion spot forums.

Today's Top Tunes 24-June-07

These are the songs Ive been listening to the most over the past few days. Ive switched to using savefile for the songs now as Ive been aware that some users have not been able to access the songs on rapidshare. In honour of these readers Ive uploaded the songs that were featured in the last installment of Today's Top Tunes.

Today's Tunes:

First new tune today is the soundtrack that goes with the top collections post below. Its by the Duke Spirit and is highly recommended. Secondly is a new mix of Crookers who I'm obsessed with. I celebrated my 21st birthday back in April this year to the sound of Crookers. Third new song comes from BSBTRGDCLUB. Basically its a dance tune that repeats the words Britney Spears but after few listens it grows on you. The last is another track from Girl Talks latest mix mashing old and new songs.

The Duke Spirit - The Step and the Walk (Rich File Mix)

Crookers - Svelgia (OH SNAP Booty Alarm Mix)

BSBTRGDCLUB - Britney

Girl Talk - Set It Off

Saturday's Tunes:

Re-uploaded for those that cant use rapidshare on their computers.

Ladytron - Blue Jeans

N.E.R.D ft Santogold & Julian Casablancas - My Drive Thru

Girl Talk - Shut The Club Down

Stand Out Collections Fall Winter 0809

As the Fall Winter Ad Campaigns are starting to come in I thought I'd take a 2nd look at the collections and list my 5 personal favourites. Featured are Prada, Proenza Schouler, Lanvin Fendi and Gucci. the soundtrack is provided by my current favourite band The Duke Spirit. I'll post the song later in Todays Top Tunes for those that would like it.

Prada: Got Rubber?

Prada display rubber jackets in their Men's Spring Summer 09 Collection.
Personally I love it. Muiccias approach to fabric is excellent and I feel these jackets are no exception. What do you think?

Photos courtesy of Yahoo News

Agyness does Doctor Who Apparantly

God this girl is getting on my nerves. Just as I started to like her she began exploiting herself and focusing on becoming a celebrity rather than a model.

According to the Sunday Mirror she will be appearing in the Christmas special of Doctor Who.

Why cant she just be a model? First appearing on British television singing and now this? Her respect has just went down the drain in my opinion.

Thanks for the heads up goes to models blog

Fall Winter 0809 Ad Campaign Update

Balenciaga F/W 08.09 : Charlotte Gainsbourg by David Sims

The image above shows the new Balenciaga ads. Such a difference to last seasons ads but a welcome change. It looks promising but I'll wait for bigger images to decide whether I like it or not.

Stella McCartney F/W 08.09 : Kate Moss & Frankie Rayder by Inez & Vinoodh
I'm so sick of Kate lately. Though I have to admit that she doesn't look as haggard as she has done lately in this ad.

Prada F/W 08.09 : Linda Evangelista & Patrick Petitjean by Steven Meisel

AGH!! Terrible. This is one of my favorite collections this season and they dropped Sasha. and replaced her with Linda. What were they thinking? Linda is so overexposed and is always over-air brushed. Terrible Terrible Terrible.

Dolce and Gabbana F/W 08.09 : Caroline, Jessica and Lily by Steven Klein

I didn't have high hopes for this campaign as I overlooked the collection however I am quite impressed. I think the concept is great and the overall images look fantastic. This is my current favourite campaign.

Credit for the images goes to missmagaddict, bluedolphin and jssy4eva from thefashionspot forums.

What are your views on these campaigns?

Today's Top Tunes 21-06-08

Here are my top tunes for today.

Its not the most recent of songs however its featured in Gucci's latest promotional video which you can view below so I think it can be reawakened.

Anything new by Santogold has to be a bonus and if she features on N.E.R.D's song that's an even bigger bonus check this one out.

This is a really good cover of last years big song. This time exchanging the whistles for a girls voice. It really shows how great a song it is.

This a great mash of a load of good songs. Just take a listen to it its taken from a bigger mix by Girl Talk trust me you'll love it.

Let us know if you love or hate it any of this!

Top Models Fall Winter 0809

Here are my personal top models for Fall Winter 0809. All footage is from style.com and edited by me. if you like this check out the past season top model videos that ive made on Youtube. My username is gmgamers.

What do you think?

Gucci Hysteria Collection Ad Campaign

And so it begins the start of the new ad campaigns are starting to roll in. First up is Gucci's Hysteria accessories collection advertising campaign. This season they dropped Natasha Poly in favour of English rose Lilly Donaldson. So far I like what I see however I think Poly was the epitome of the Gucci girl. Ill decide who makes the better Gucci girl when the fall winter campaign for the main collection comes out.

In the meantime check out the promotional video below and take a look at the two images from the campaign so far thanks to kitchsyfox and kevinnn from thefashionspot forums.

About FAT

In this first post on FAT i want to introduce you to the concept of the blog. Basically it is as the name suggests, a blog focused on bringing you the newest fashion videos, ad campaigns, shows, models etc but also delivering the newest and most amazing music that's out there.

I'm a fashion student just about to go into my final year studying Fashion Design and have had past experience working with Vivienne Westwood and her design team, along with this I scour the net religiously looking for every single thing that's happening right now and in the future with fashion so I can assure you that you will be the first to know whats going on.

Along with this, I love music and the general London club scene and try my best to go out as much as possible to places like White Heat, Trailer Trash, Aquarium and Boombox when it was around which leaves me in a position where I feel that I know whats good and what is going to be big when it comes to music.

So that's about it, I don't want to bore you with anything so lets get started.
